My name is Teruo Noguchi. With the organizational reshuffle, I have taken over as the principal investigator of the Nationwide Gender-specific Atherosclerosis Determinants Estimation and Ischemic Cardiovascular Disease Prospective Cohort Study (NADESICO study) from Dr. Satoshi Yasuda. The NADESICO study aims to elucidate sex differences in ischemic heart diseases, particularly coronary atherosclerosis, using a coronary artery computed tomography examination to contribute to the practice of gender-specific medicine.

Many differences between men and women such as, the morbidity and mortality rates of ischemic heart diseases in women being 1/5 to 1/3 of that of men, their increase after menopause, worsening of prognosis in women, once the disease develops, and so on are recognized. The action of genes and sex hormones are considered to be strongly involved in these gender differences. Clarification of the gender differences and practice of gender-specific medicine, based on these differences, has become necessary.
“NADESICO Study Group” elucidates an important research topic, the gender difference in ischemic heart diseases, using a new modality called the coronary artery computed tomography examination.
